Follow the Aussies' World Twenty20 campaignSeptember, 2007 Ponting to lead Australia in South AfricaA nagging elbow injury has forced fast bowler Shaun Tait to withdraw from Australia's ICC World Twenty20 squad. Australia's chairman of selectors, Andrew Hilditch, confirmed that Tait's right elbow had not recovered as well as had been hoped from surgery in June, and the 24-year-old was experiencing some discomfort. Tait had worked hard to in a bid to be fit for the inaugural World Twenty20 tournament, to be held in South Africa in September, but will now focus on Australia's short tour of India which also begins next month. Tait took 23 wickets in this year's World Cup, equal second with Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan, and three behind team-mate Glenn McGrath. Australia have written to the ICC technical committee seeking approval for Ben Hilfenhaus - a 24-year-old right-arm fast bowler from Tasmania - to be Tait's replacement. Australia's first match in the tournament is on September 12 against Zimbabwe in Cape Town. Australia, pre-tournament favourites, suffered two shock defeats, first losing to Zimbabwe in the first round and then to Pakistan in the second, but coach Tim Nielsen believes the team is peaking at the right time. After setting Australia a daunting target of 189, India restricted the World Champions to 173-7 and set up a finals against arch-rivals Pakistan on Monday in Johannesburg. Earlier,Yuvraj Singh yet again took Australia to the cleaners with some power hitting as the left-handed bomber smashed a 30-ball 70 to whisk India away to a terrific 188-5.
