The game officials after inspecting the ground at 5 pm decided to cancel the match as persistent rain had rendered the pitch unplayable. The Australian team will head back home on Thursday to prepare for the upcoming Test series against the West Indies. The Indian squad will get ready for the Test series against Sri Lanka to commence in Ahmedabad from Monday. Australian Shane Watson was declared Man of the Series. He scored 256 runs in 6 innings at an average of 42.66 and a strike rate of 91.10. His highest was 93 at Hyderabad.
India vs Australia, 6th ODI: Australia Clinch One-Day Series after beating India by 6 wickets (AUS-IND: 4-2|7)November 8, 2009 After winning the toss and electing to bat, India received a big blow when Johnson took the wickets of both Sehwag and Gambhir in the very first over. The tumble of wickets continued in quick succession, thanks to an excellent performance by Bollinger (10-4-35-5). After 9 overs, India were 27/5 and it seemed like the Indian team may not be able to get their score into triple digits. But Ravindra Jadeja (57) and Praveen Kumar (54) withstood the Australian attack and took India to a somewhat respectable score of 170.
The Indian bowlers did not succeed in taking wickets like their Australian counterparts. The first wicket came in the 5th over when Marsh was lbw to Patel. Watson was the top-scorer for the Aussies with 49 runs. Hussey contributed 35 runs and Ponting and White both made 25 runs each. For India, Harbhajan Singh brought down Watson and Ponting, but the Australians reached their target in 41.5 overs at the loss of only 4 wickets. With this win, Australia has now clinched the One-Day Series winning 4 out of 7 games. Australia have done a commendable job of coming from behind when India led the series (1-2), winning three consecutive games and ensuring the series win (4-2). He hit a superb 175 off only 141 deliveries including 19 fours and four sixes, as India chased and missed Australia's imposing 350-4 by 3 runs. An opening stand of 145 with Shaun Marsh scoring 112 and Shane Watson 93 helped Australia rack up the huge total. India was looking at a hugely unexpected win (19 needed off 18), when Tendulkar finally fell to McKay, caught by Nathan Hauritz. Later Praveen Kumar bludgeoned a six to leave the Indians wanting 10 off 10. Just eight was needed when the final over started, but with two balls to go, Praveen Kumar was run out. India had fallen four runs shy of what would have been the second-highest run chase in one-day internationals. India vs Australia, 4th ODI: Australia beat India by 24 runs to level ODI series (AUS-IND: 2-2|7)November 2, 2009 Put in to bat after India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss, Shane Watson hit 49 and took three wickets as the Aussies fought back in Mohali to win the fourth one-day international. Cameron White made 62 and captain Ricky Ponting continued his impressive form by hitting 52 in Australia's total of 250 at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium. Before this match, teams batting first won nine day-night encounters at this venue, while teams batting second scored just five wins under lights.India were all out for 226 in 46.4 overs. Sachin Tendulkar top-scored for India with 40 from 68 balls, falling seven short of 17,000 ODI runs when he was lbw to Hauritz. Sehwag smashed seven boundaries off 13 balls before miscuing Bollinger to Watson at mid-off. Gautam Gambhir, who was hit on the neck by a pull shot from Ricky Ponting in the third ODI, was ruled out the match and replaced by Virat Kohli. There was a security scare as barely two hours before the start of the match, seven live cartridges were found wrapped in paper from a rest room in the second floor of the stadium by the personnel of the bomb detection squad and dog squad. The police said the matter was kept secret as it could have created unnecessary panic among the people. Yuvraj Singh (78 runs, 96 balls, 8x4s, 2x6s) and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (71 runs, 95 balls, 6x4s) hit impressive half-centuries to steer India to a six-wicket victory in the third one-day international against Australia in Delhi on Saturday. India surpassed the 230-run target with 10 balls to spare in the day-night encounter, to take a 2-1 lead in the 7 match series. Man of the match Yuvi and Dhoni put on 148 runs for the fourth wicket off 173 balls on a challenging track to pull India out of trouble after they were reeling at 53-3 in the 16th over. Earlier, Australia posted 229-5 after winning the toss. Mike Hussey scored his third successive fifty with 81 not out after captain Ricky Ponting, opening the innings, scored 59 while Shane Watson contributed 41 at the top of the order. A quickfire century by captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni 124 (107 balls, 9X4s, 3X6s) which he described as "special" set up India's 99-run win over Australia on Wednesday as the home team levelled the ODI series 1-1. It was Dhoni's fifth one-day hundred, and the total of 354 for 7 was India's fourth highest total in one-day internationals.Dhoni shared century stands with Gautam Gambhir (76) and Suresh Raina (62) for the fourth and fifth wickets respectively. Australia slumped to 45-3 in the 11th over of their run chase and, despite a half-century from Michael Hussey, never got back in contention. Yuvraj doubtful for first Vadodara ODIOctober 24, 2009
Explosive India batsman Yuvraj Singh, who missed this month's Champions Trophy in South Africa with a broken finger, is a doubt for their opening one-day international against Australia on Sunday. Wicketkeeper/batsman Dhoni hurt his knee during practice on Friday, but is expected to recover in time for the Vadodara one-dayer. Australia will be without batsmen Michael Clarke and Callum Ferguson for the entire seven-match series because of back and knee problems respectively. Wicketkeeper Brad Haddin, who is undergoing rehabilitation following surgery on a broken finger, and bowler Nathan Bracken, who has a knee injury is also not in the squad. India last won a bilateral series against Australia in 1986 at home when Kapil Dev led the team to a 3-2 triumph over Allan Border’s men.

36-year-old Indian batsman Rahul Dravid was dropped for the first two home matches against world champions Australia starting later this month. After spending nearly two years in the wilderness, he was recetly recalled for a tri-series in Sri Lanka last month and also played three more matches in the recent Champions Trophy in South Africa, during which period he scored 180 runs in five matches.Dashing opener Virender Sehwag and all-rounder Yuvraj Singh returned to the squad after recovering from injuries while all-rounders Yusuf Pathan and Abhishek Nayar, batsman Dinesh Karthik and paceman Rudra Pratap Singh were dropped. India capped a tight bowling display to record a crushing 172-run victory over Australia in the fourth and final Test and wrap up the series 2-0 in Nagpur.
Australia was bowled out for 209 on the final afternoon as they chased an unlikely 382 to suffer their first Test series defeat since the 2005 Ashes in England. It was also India's first Test series win over Australia in seven years as they clinched the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma was named man of the series. Matthew Hayden alone sustained his team's slim hopes with a bold 77. India captain Anil Kumble retired with his side still leading Australia 1-0 in the series after the third test ended in a draw on Sunday.
Legspinner Kumble declared India's second innings at 208-5 shortly after tea and then opened the bowling in his farewell to the game.
